The School of Dance Grading Examination and Education


The School of Dance Grading Examination and Education, subordinate to Beijing Dance Academy, is a national art grading institution approved by the Ministry of Culture, providing dance education to the whole society. Aimed at “popularizing dance education to raise the quality of people’s lives” and “achieving high-level generalized education of dance”, the School has built an effective teaching system that features quality education and dance aesthetics. A service platform for quality dance education has also been established by means of teaching materials development, teacher training, examination evaluation and program promotion to meet the needs of people in Beijing and other places across China and overseas.

Currently the School offers two concentrations: Chinese Dance Grading Examination and Ballet Grading Examination. The Syllabus for Grading Examination in Chinese Dance (Grade 1-13)and the Syllabus for Grading Examination in Ballet (Grade 1-8) are the first series of textbooks compiled respectively by Sun Guangyan and Qu Hao for primary and secondary school students in their extra-class dance education. The excellent faculty of the School has established standardized courses of dance popularization, published systematic textbooks and implemented rigorous systems of grading management.
As a result of 20 years of development, over 300 institutions and schools in 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China have been cooperated with the School. Meanwhile, partnership organizations have existed in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States, Canada and other countries and regions. Every year nearly 30,000 dance grading teachers are trained both at home and abroad, and over 200,000 students obtain the National Art Level Grading Certificate by participating in the dance grading examinations.
